Can someone see that I viewed their Instagram Highlights?

Can someone see that I viewed their Instagram Highlights

Instagram introduced “highlights” in December of 2017 and it picked up well with its users. Now, almost all accounts have “highlights” posted.

It is a good way to display pictures that you love without having to post them on your main page.

So, did you watch somebody’s “highlights” by mistake? Or maybe you meant to check them out?

The question has arisen quite often if someone can see who viewed their “highlights

This article will answer the following questions:

  1. Will someone know if I view their Instagramhighlights?
  2. Can I see who viewed my “highlights”?
  3. Who can see my Instagram highlights?
  4. How to hide a story from people?
  5. Conclusion

Will someone know if I view their Instagram Highlights?

The answer is no, just like how the story disappears after 24 hours the viewers’ list too disappears with it.

After 24 hours, the “eye” icon that displays the names of your story’s viewers vanishes.

But if the highlight has been added immediately after the story was posted (i.e, with 24 hours since the story was posted), then obviously it will show who viewed it.

However, some add their old stories as highlights, and so if you view that they wouldn’t know who viewed it. This is because it’s been over 24 hours since they’ve posted their story.

After 24 hours of posting a story, Instagram stops updating the viewers’ list. So if they add an old story to their highlights, they will not be able to see who has viewed it.

Can I see who viewed my highlights?

The above rules apply here too. So, no you cannot see who has viewed your highlights if it is posted after 24 hours of the story.

A story will disappear after 24 hours and so does the views tracker.

Nevertheless, if you add a story that has been posted within 24 hours to your highlights then you can most definitely see who has viewed the highlight.

Even you (the poster) can’t view your story after 24 hours are up. But you can view all your previous stories on your “Archive”.

From your archive, you can add any of your previous stories to your highlights section.

Who can see my Instagram highlights?

Your highlights are visible to all your followers if your account is set to “Private”. But if you’re a “Public” account, your highlights are visible to all users.

But you conveniently have the option to hide your story from people you don’t want to view it.

The person you’ve hidden your story from will not be able to view it even if you post that particular story as your highlight. So people you’ve hidden the story from will not be able to view your highlight.

How to hide a story from someone?

If you don’t want a particular individual or a group of people to not view your story, you can simply hide it from them.

When you post a story, on the bottom right corner you will see a 3 dot menu.

Tap that the 3 dots to view your options. The options displayed will be: Delete, Save photo, Send to, Share as post, Copy link, Share to, and Story settings.

Tap on story settings to change who can view your story.

Under story settings, you’ll see “Hide story from”, below you’ll see “0 people”.

When you click on “0 people“, a list of all your followers will be displayed.

Select from the list or you can even search their names on the search bar provided.

Once you click on their name the story will not be visible to them.

Conclusion

When you view somebody’s highlight, they cannot see that you’ve viewed it.

They can only see the viewers list if the highlight is a story that they’ve posted immediately and added to their highlights.

The viewers list vanishes after 24 hours and hence you cant see who views your highlights either.
